Coach
Conduct
We would like the reputation and integrity of the Olive
Branch Youth Football League to be free from the effects of
irresponsible conduct of teams, managers, coaches and other
parties. The pressure that some teams, managers and coaches
feel to win, even at the expense of fair and ethical
behavior, produces actions that set a terrible example for
the players. When such conduct goes unchecked, pressure
mounts on other teams and coaches to respond in kind.
Manager's/Coaches'
Responsibility and Code of Conduct
Managers and coaches are responsible for their own conduct,
and for the conduct of their players, parents and fans at
all games. Abusive or obscene language, violent play,
violent conduct, use of drugs or alcohol,
or other behavior detrimental to the game or players will
not be tolerated. The failure of a manager or coach to
control his or her players, parents and fans will result in
action against him or her by the Olive Branch Youth Football
League Commissioner.
Managers and coaches must refrain from loud, persistent or
intrusive coaching of players on and off the field of play.
Only the Manager and three (3) Coaches may accompany the team
onto the field. Parents and other spectators must remain
outside the field of play. No coach, head or otherwise, may
be on the field during play with two exceptions. 1) Only one
coach from each team maybe on the field of play to assist
the players of the youngest age group, flag football. 2) In
case of an injury or other emergency. Additionally, a coach
may carry the play to the team, in flag and the youngest age
group, so long as it does not interfere with the normal flow
of the game.
Coaches should set the example regarding the officials.
Explain to parents that, however the officials may appear,
he or she is trained in the rules of the game, and is almost
always better positioned than a spectator to see what
actually happened. Point out that much of officiating is
judgment and that the officials are neutral; while coaches,
parents and fans are not. It is your responsibility to set
the tone for the conduct of your parents and fans.
If a manager, coach, parent or fan becomes abusive in any
way and you cannot quiet them, ask them to leave before the
officials, the Olive Branch Youth Football League or its
Commissioner has to do so. They are all your responsibility
from the time you come on to the field until you leave.
The Olive Branch Youth Football League and its Commissioner
will review all reported incidents of behavior considered
detrimental to the game. The League will act on a simple
majority vote with the Three Strikes Rule in force.
First Incident
= Written warning
Second
Incident = Second written warning with 1 game suspension
Third Incident
= 1 year suspension
A second "1 year suspension" will result in a lifetime ban
from all Olive Branch Youth Football activities including
managing or coaching.
Any manager/coach that has been ejected from a game must
leave the playing field area for the rest of the game and
retire to the parking lot. Any threat made by a
manager/coach to an official, player, manager/coach, parent
or any other person will not be tolerated. Threats will draw
a punishment up to and including a 1 year suspension from
the Olive Branch Youth Football League.
A manager's/coach's most important role is teaching young
men and women about life. This involves setting some
standards and a code of conduct. A manager/coach in the
Olive Branch Youth Football League must agree with the idea
of being a role model for the players and their parents.
